CONNEAUT LAKE – As part of his efforts to improve and protect Pennsylvania’s natural resources, Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) announced today that the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy received a $45,000 Watershed Restoration Protection Program (WRPP) grant to be used to restore Elk Creek in Girard Township.
“Pennsylvania, and in particular the 17th District, is home to numerous natural treasures all residents enjoy,” Wentling. “This funding helps ensure this natural beauty will be around for decades to come.”
Specifically, the grant will be used to partially fund a project to install a 558-foot stepped-stone stream bank stabilization structure, eight flow deflectors in the stream and a 1-acre vegetated buffer along Elk Creek downstream of the conservancy’s property.
WRPP grants are through the Marcellus Legacy Fund, which is funded through unconventional gas well impact fees charged to gas drillers in the state.
