GIRARD – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) encourages senior citizens, their family members and caregivers to attend the fourth annual Senior Expo on Thursday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Parish Center, 1001 Main St. E., in Girard.

A new addition this year to this informative expo is a series of educational mini-seminars to further assist senior citizens.

“Attendees will have the opportunity to receive valuable information during these 20-minute seminars,” Wentling said. “Seminars scheduled to be offered are CPR, nutrition for seniors, how seniors can better protect themselves from identity theft and scams, and updates to Medicare.”

More than 70 vendors, offering a wide range of services geared toward senior citizens, will be on hand to share information and answer questions.

Vendors include attorneys, vision and hearing specialists, estate and funeral planners, medical equipment specialists, hospice and home care providers, and many more. Representatives from government agencies and nonprofit organizations will also be in attendance.

“The purpose of this expo is to help inform our seniors, and those who care for seniors, about the various services, activities and information available to them in our area,” Wentling said. “Residents are often unaware of the many programs and services available to seniors. Attendees will have the unique opportunity of having numerous vendors on hand to guide them through services.”

Flu and pneumonia vaccinations, otoscope testing, ear wax screening, unused prescription drug drop off and blood pressure checks are some of the services to be offered during the expo. Attendees who wish to be vaccinated are reminded they must bring their Medicare information and any insurance cards with them.

Shingle shots will also be offered. To check on a copay for shingle shots ahead of time, call Giant Eagle at (814) 774-2467. Additionally, attendees can sign up for the Pennsylvania Yellow Dot Program and smoke alarm installation and evaluations.

The schedule for the mini-seminars is as follows:

  • Nutrition for Seniors: 10:30-10:50 a.m.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): 11-11:20 a.m.
  • Medicare Updates and Changes: 11:30-11:50 a.m.
  • Protection from Identity Theft and Scams: Noon to 12:20 p.m.
