HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling welcomed to Harrisburg today Northwestern High School student Tim Wheeler, a recipient of the 2017-18 Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship, to be recognized in the House chamber.
“It was great having Tim and his parents visit Harrisburg and to give him the honor he deserves,” Wentling said. “It is always exciting to see a young person reaching toward their goals and excelling academically. I wish him all the best as he enters college this fall.”
Tim, son of Christine and Vic Wheeler, of Albion, plans to attend Penn State Behrend in Erie. He received a four year scholarship at the tuition level equivalent of one semester at a State System of Higher Education school for each of the next four years, which equals to thousands of dollars each year.
The program is open to graduating high school seniors who are Pennsylvania residents and plan to attend an in-state college, university or career school as a full-time student. Students must attain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average in order to be eligible. Other factors taken into consideration for the scholarship include commitment to community, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and financial need.
Scholarships are awarded through an independent panel of judges chosen by the foundation.
