HARRISBURG – Northwestern High School student Timothy Wheeler is a recipient of the 2017-18 Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship, Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) announced today.
“I am very proud of Timothy’s achievement in winning the scholarship,” Wentling said. “I look forward to joining him and his family in Harrisburg when he is formally presented the scholarship.”
Timothy, of Albion, plans to attend Penn State Behrend in Erie after graduation. The award consists of the value of one semester of tuition at the State System of Higher Education for each of the four years, which equals to thousands of dollars each year.
The program is open to graduating high school seniors who are Pennsylvania residents and plan to attend an in-state college, university or career school as a full-time student. Students must attain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average in order to be eligible. Other factors taken into consideration for the scholarship include commitment to community, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and financial need.
The scholarship program is administered through the Foundation for Enhancing Communities.
Scholarships are awarded through an independent panel of judges chosen by the foundation.
