Wentling Announces $45,000 Grant for Farrell Comprehensive Plan

HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) today announced the City of Farrell has been awarded a $45,000 state grant to support development of a new comprehensive plan aimed at guiding the city’s continued revitalization.

The funding was awarded through Pennsylvania’s Municipal Assistance Program (MAP), administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development. MAP funding can be used to provide technical assistance to municipalities and other eligible applicants for activities including community planning and implementation.

“You’ve got to know where you’re headed before you start down the road,” Wentling said. “This will help Farrell put a solid plan in place for the years ahead.”

Farrell will use the funding to develop an implementable comprehensive plan covering the next 10 years. The plan will focus on housing development, neighborhood revitalization and economic investment intended to attract people, strengthen the city’s sense of place and maximize its economic potential.

The comprehensive plan also will provide a framework for local decision-making, help prioritize redevelopment initiatives and better position the city to pursue public-private partnerships.
