GASD Earns Grant for Special Education Training, Says Wentling
May 26, 2026
HARRISBURG – Greenville Area School District has been awarded a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to help encourage development of more special education teachers in the state, Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today.
“As a former teacher, I’m sure this money will help ensure we continue to have qualified teachers available to support our kids and help them succeed in life,” said Wentling, himself a Greenville alum. “Our district has excellent special education programs and excellent leadership. This is a great opportunity to help continue that momentum.”
Twenty-six schools in the Commonwealth were awarded grants of up to $20,000 through the Developing Future Special Educators program. The grants are expected to give 800 Pennsylvania high school students early exposure to a career as a special education teacher and opportunities to earn college credits before graduating from high school.
