Wentling Announces $760,000 in Grants for Mercer County Housing Projects and Blight Mitigation

June 11, 2025

HARRISBURG - Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) today announced that $760,000 in grant funding has been awarded for projects across Mercer County and the 7th Legislative District.

The projects that were awarded funding are as follows:
- The Mercer County Housing Authority received $500,000 for its Veterans Housing Development Center Project, which will provide 10 units of affordable housing - six transitional and four long-term rentals - for homeless and at-risk veterans in Mercer and Lawrence counties.
- The Community Action Partnership of Mercer County (CAPMC), working with the city of Sharon, received a $125,000 grant to help fund its Lots to Love program, which helps develop formerly blighted property. CAPMC received a $100,000 grant for its Bridge Subsidy Housing program, which helps people with mental illness who are homeless acquire affordable housing. The program provides emergency shelter, pays part of the consumers rent, removes barriers like utility arrearages and provides housing counseling. CAPMC also received a $35,000 grant for its Assets Match Program, which helps participants establish a savings account.

“This funding will help veterans and at-risk folks across Mercer County. The funding will also support the success of Community Action Partnership’s Lots to Love program,” said Wentling.

Funding for these projects was approved for Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) applicants. Money to fund this round of PHARE applications came from two sources: Marcellus Shale Impact Fees and Realty Transfer Taxes.
