HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today that Brigadier General John Pippy will attend his Veterans Recognition Breakfast as the guest of honor. The event will take place Friday, Nov. 1, from 9-11 a.m. at the Hickory VFW, located at 5550 E. State St. in Hermitage.
Earlier this month, Brig. Gen. Pippy was appointed to serve as Pennsylvania’s acting adjutant general and head of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). This comes after Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler announced his retirement last week after nearly four decades of service with the Pennsylvania National Guard.
“I’m truly honored Brig. Gen. Pippy agreed to take time out of his incredibly busy schedule to attend my Veterans Recognition Breakfast,” Wentling said. “Brig. Gen. Pippy exemplifies the reasons why Americans hold our servicemen and women with such high regard. He has spent his entire adult life in service to our nation, almost entirely in some form of leadership role. Even though he is preparing to take a post responsible for leading thousands of people, both military and civilian, he still finds the time to come speak to veterans of the 7th Legislative District.”
Previously, Pippy led the integration of strategic and joint staff issues for over 13,000 soldiers and 4,100 airmen of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He led the administration, coordination, planning, development and execution of all joint staff programs that prepare the state for contingency operations in either a federal or state emergency to include man-made or natural disasters, and federal mobilizations.
This will be Brig. Gen. Pippy’s second recent visit to the 7th Legislative District. He also presented at Wentling’s event in August honoring World War II veterans William Alfonsi of Hermitage and Dominick Aluisia of New Castle as they were awarded the French Legion d’honneur, France’s highest distinction, at the Mercer County Courthouse.
Wentling’s Veterans Recognition Breakfast will also feature representatives from state and local veterans’ organizations. The event is open to all Mercer County veterans and one guest. Registration is required. Please call Wentling’s Shenango Valley district office at 724-734-5980 or the Greenville office at 724-638-4101 to register.
