HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today the School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) approved more than $1.6 million in grants to improve safety and security for students and staff at schools across the 7th Legislative District. 

“As both a parent and a former teacher, I understand the need for students to feel safe in order to reach their potential,” Wentling said. “By bringing this funding back to Mercer County schools, the districts can enhance their security through alarms, safety officers and more to make sure our kids’ learning environments are as safe and secure as possible.”

The total amount awarded to each school is as follows:

   • Farrell Area School District - $138,700.
   • Greenville Area School District - $150,700.
   • Hermitage School District - $160,573.
   • Jamestown Area School District - $135,129.
   • Keystone Education Center Charter School - $70,000.
   • Mercer County Career Center - $70,000.
   • Reynolds School District - $ 447,131.
   • Sharon City School District - $160,020.
   • Sharpsville Area School District - $143,148.
   • West Middlesex Area School District - $139,299.

The funding was distributed through four different grants, which includes Noncompetitive School Mental Health Grants, Formula-Based School Safety and Security Meritorious Grants, Competitive School Safety and Security Grants, and Targeted School Safety Grants for Nonpublic Schools.
