HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has awarded the Mercer County Food Bank $40,000 to support its MilitaryShare program. This program provides nine annual private food distributions for veterans and military personnel and their families at designated sites throughout Mercer County. It currently serves more than 600 individuals.
“The Mercer County Food Bank conducts several direct distribution programs,” Wentling said, “but MilitaryShare is specifically designed to give back to our service members and their families. They’ve sacrificed so much to ensure our safety, and this funding will go a long way toward ensuring their cupboards stay full throughout the year.”
The funding comes from DMVA’s Veterans’ Trust Fund (VTF). The VTF is funded by generous Pennsylvanians who voluntarily make a $5 donation when applying for or renewing their driver’s license, photo ID or a motor vehicle registration.?Additionally, the VTF receives proceeds from the sale of the?Honoring Our Veterans?and?Honoring Our Women Veterans?license plates and private donations. Since the grant program began in 2013, a total of nearly $7.5 million?has been awarded to organizations that serve Pennsylvania veterans.
