Wentling Announces $1.5 Million for Community Learning Programs

HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) awarded more than $1.5 million in grants for Community Learning Programs in the 7th Legislative District. The funding is through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, which provides grants to establish and support community learning centers that provide academic, artistic and cultural enrichment opportunities for students and their families.
The grants awarded in the 7th Legislative District include:
• Farrell Area School District - $392,694
• United Way of Mercer County’s STEAM Afterschool Academics - $584,640
• United Way of Mercer County’s R.E.A.D. (Read Excel Achieve Dream) Elementary Afterschool Program - $550,000
“As a former technology education teacher, I’m thrilled that we’re investing in Mercer County’s students both inside and outside the classroom,” Wentling said. “Programs like these are how we ensure our children have all the tools they need to reach their potential.”
