HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) is encouraging any Mercer County veteran who may have lost important service forms to seek the help of both the Mercer County Veterans Affairs office the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA). These organizations will assist veterans with locating their lost DD Form 214 (DD-214) and other military documents to get credit for time served and receive important benefits they have earned.

The DD-214 is a Department of Defense form issued after a service members’ retirement, separation or discharge from active duty in the U.S. military. Without this document, veterans could have delays when applying for benefits earned through their service.

“Our service members devote their lives to protecting our freedom,” Wentling said. “Each and every one of them deserves the benefits earned through their service. The Mercer County Veterans Affairs Office and the DMVA can help make sure a missing document won’t stand in the way of receiving those benefits.”

In addition to locating lost documents, the Mercer County Veterans Affairs Director Bradley Alan can also assist with things like disability compensation claims, pension claims and emergency financial assistance. You can call to make an appointment at 724-662-7511.

Anyone needing assistance from the DMVA to locate their DD-214 or other military documentation can call toll-free at 1-800-547-2838, or e-mail RA-REQ@pa.gov. More information about locating military documents can be found by visiting the Records Request Program.

Veterans, family members and people who work with veterans can also sign up for the DMVA’s Veterans Registry by visiting register.dmva.pa.gov.

To prevent the loss of important military documents, Wentling reminds all Mercer County veterans that the County of Mercer Recorders Office will keep these forms confidentially. In addition, veterans can visit Recorder of Deeds Dee Dee Zickar to take part in Operation Veterans Appreciation. Veterans are offered photo ID cards that can earn discounts at several local businesses.
