Wentling Announces $250,000 in State Funding for Workforce Development in Mercer County

June 28, 2023

HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today the West Central Workforce Development Board will receive $250,000 from a Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry grant. The grant will support a West Central Workforce Development Board program to provide job training to young adults who were formerly incarcerated. The Community Connections program links these young adults to youth reentry project partners, who will determine skill sets and training gaps, the need for supportive services, and training options. Each participant will be assigned a joint adult mentoring team for advice throughout program participation.

“This program is a win-win,” Wentling said. “It has the potential to bring new workers to the labor force while giving young adults a second chance to become productive members of society.”

The West Central Workforce Development Board works to retain and attract business in Mercer and Lawrence counties.
