HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) announced today that the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) awarded nearly $30,000 in funding to the 17th District to preserve and maintain Pennsylvania’s history. The money comes from the Cultural and Historical Support and Historical and Archival Records Care (HARC) Grants.
“As someone who was appointed to serve as a commissioner on the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, I take great pride in preserving history in the Commonwealth,” Wentling said.
Below is a breakdown of the distributed funding:
Cultural and Historical Support Grant:

Crawford County Historical Society - $4,000
•
Erie County Historical Society - $12,003
•
Lawrence County Historical Society - $4,000
HARC Grant:
•
Lawrence County Historical Society - $9,950
This project will coordinate and process the indexing and imaging of the earliest immigration records that exist for Lawrence County. This partnership between the Lawrence County Office of the Prothonotary (Prothonotary) and the Lawrence County Historical Society (Society) will make this information searchable, accessible, and preserved for future generations.
According to Wentling, the purpose of the Cultural and Historical Support Grant program is to strengthen Pennsylvania’s museum community by supporting entities that do not receive backing from other state agencies. He said HARC grants go toward improving protections and accessibility of historic documents under possession of local governments, historical societies and academic institutions.
