Wentling Announces $90,000 Student Internships Grant Awarded to Northwest Workforce Development Board
March 9, 2020
CONNEAUT LAKE - Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) today congratulated the Northwest Workforce Development Board for qualifying to receive a $90,189 grant from the State/Local Internship Program (SLIP).
“All across Pennsylvania, there are thousands of job vacancies going unfilled because companies are unable to find enough qualified applicants,” said Wentling. “I am confident that the Northwest Workforce Development Board will use this funding throughout our region to help even more young people acquire the skills needed to land employment in these types of high-demand, family-sustaining occupations, while helping job creators fill the critical skilled positions they need to grow and expand.”
Funded through the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the PA Department of Labor and Industry awarded more than $4.7 million in SLIP grants across the Commonwealth to support 21 Local Workforce Development Boards and nearly 1,500 student internships.
This year SLIP will operate for an eight-week period between May 1 and Aug. 28. The program will offer wages at a minimum of $10.35 an hour for young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 years.
