Wentling Announces Loan for Alternative Fuel System in Beaver Township
3/26/2019
CONNEAUT LAKE – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) announced today that CNG Services will receive a low-interest $538,500 Alternative and Clean Energy Biofuels project loan through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for a biogas purification system in Crawford County.

“This loan will allow CNG Services to move forward with its $2 million environmentally friendly project and will aid our region’s economy,” Wentling said. “Since this is a loan, it allows the state to invest in a worthy project while the company also has a large stake in it. I am grateful the CFA saw the merits of this project.”

The project will see the purchase and installation of a biogas purification system at Bortnick Dairy Farm in Beaver Township. With roughly 1,500 heads of cattle, Bortnick Dairy Farm currently utilizes two bio-digesters to generate electricity for the farm. The biogas purification system to be installed at the farm through the loan will capture wasted biogas and purify it to natural gas. The natural gas will then be used as transportation fuel at CNG Services compressed natural gas fueling stations. The system is expected to produce the approximate equivalent of 2,500 gallons of gasoline each day.

Administered jointly by the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Department of Environmental Protection, the Alternative and Clean Energy Program provides financial assistance through grants and loans to be used by eligible applicants for the utilization, development and construction of alternative and clean energy projects in the state.
