Wentling Announces $200,000 Grant to Encourage Manufacturing Employment
9/21/2023
HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today the Northwest PA Industrial Resource Center (NWIRC) will receive a $200,000 Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) grant to support manufacturing programs. The money will go to NWIRC’s “Project Manufacturing Talent Stream,” a program that brings students and other future job seekers on-site to manufacturers to explore career opportunities.

“The labor shortage is affecting a lot of industries, and the manufacturing sector is no exception,” Wentling said. “This grant will help support an important program to help create jobs and grow businesses in our own backyard.”

“Manufacturing plays such a vital role here in northwestern Pennsylvania,” said Bob Zaruta, president and CEO of the NWIRC. “I’m thankful that Rep. Wentling, DCED Secretary Rick Siger and the governor understand how important it is to invest in the next wave of talent in the manufacturing industry.”

The NWIRC is a nonprofit organization serving small and mid-sized manufacturers. In addition to Mercer County, the “Project Manufacturing Talent Stream” program also serves Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Venango, and Warren counties.
