HARRISBURG – Jamestown Area Junior/Senior High School student John DeMarco is a recipient of the 2019 House of Representatives Scholarship, Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) announced today.
“This is a great accomplishment for John. The scholarship will help him continue his education at the University of Pittsburgh,” Wentling said. “I look forward to having John and his family to Harrisburg to formally present him with this scholarship.”
John is the third student in the 17th Legislative District to win the scholarship since Wentling took office. The scholarship is for one semester of tuition for each of four years at a school in the State System of Higher Education.
“John is an excellent student and truly deserving of this scholarship,” Superintendent Tracy Reiser said. “The entire district is proud of his accomplishment.”
The program is open to graduating high school seniors who are Pennsylvania residents and plan to attend an in-state college, university or career school as a full-time student. Students must attain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average in order to be eligible. Other factors taken into consideration for the scholarship include commitment to community, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and financial need.
The scholarship program is administered through the Foundation for Enhancing Communities.
Scholarships are awarded through an independent panel of judges chosen by the foundation. No tax dollars are used for this scholarship.
